the visitors
adam came in yesterday. we had fun. went to see sondre. he was going to stay longer this weekend but unfortunately got an important call drawing him back to nyc today as opposed to tom'w. the sondre show was very good though. did a lot of stuff off of two way monologue and it translated nicely on just guitars & pedal steel too. he had the crowd in the palm of his hand & it seemed like the show went by so fast. if there was a musical equivalent of my personality, i think it would be him. rufus is a bit too grandiose & over the top, ed is a bit too morose and downtrodden. but sondre captures the coolness with his cocktail-pop sounds, the silent heartbreak in his lyricism, and the exquisite beauty and mystery in his instrumental bridges/sections. he is cuteness personified too. i'm really attracted to his kind of person...slender body, thin nose, angular face, tossled hair, light voice, blue eyes. perfection. got to meet him afterwards & he signed my cd but rushed right through me :-/ oh well. he's so dapper though. and that really is the best word to describe him, "dapper."
also got to meet charlotte martin who played an interesting opening set. (paul, give me your address, i have something for you). i also get a shirt of hers that says "i'm normal, please date me." which could be my motto. i got a large b/c the medium looked tiny. and normally i wear smalls. i should've went with the medium anyway. i'm hoping it'll shrink. anyone know any good way to shrink clothes. she was very "berkeley tori" if you will. and really nice & sweet afterwards. we held hands for a few minutes as she was talking to another person. and she signed my cd to "cute chris." call me "cute chris" or anything chris alliterative and i'm yours. her favorite song of mine though was the "please date me, i'm normal" song.
we met these two crazy people there who were at our table. better crazies than borings though. trisha & danny. trisha from baltimore, danny her gay cousin from orlando. we knew it would be a fun night when they hadnt been sitting down 5 mins and we knew she was having a hystorectomy. and they both like their alcohol very much. trisha though is straight out of baltimore, lol. platinum hair with black roots. works in a steel mill. adam got to talk to her more than i did, as danny & i were chatting. danny was cute. reminded me a lot of brian in nyc. we traded info after the show so i'll probably email him or something in the next day or so. he is very orlando though. with a total stoner laugh. lol. and i realized that someone's laugh is important to me. it has to be a good laugh. good laughs are so irresistable but bad laughs...could be dealbreakers.
was nice to meet adam. he came in from nyc on the bus. i walked him a block or two around dc before we made our way out to annapolis. once in annapolis we parked our car and wandered around the city, getting chilly drinks at starbucks b/c we both had to pee. did some more walking, along the water, historic sights. even got to walk on a drawbridge that was going up. ate at the rams head. got there in time for happy hour and their beer is very good...and $2 drafts too. almost got the night's special, the lerche tournedos, named after sondre of course...but went for the funkytown fish & chips or something like that. then just hung around our table till the show doors open. and i love last night how 2 light beers & 2 chocolate martinis had no effect on my driving or anything last night, lol. let's here it for the alcoholics in the audience.
in music news, frou frou is covering "holding out for a hero" on the shrek 2 soundtrack. tori's live dvd/cd comes out this week. steve poltz is playing wednesday night at jammin java. 50 foot wave (featuring kristin hersh) is doing an in-store tomw in dc that i'm going to try to catch.
dropped adam off this morning at the greyhound station so he could take care of his special nyc engagement. a lot of the roads were blocked. gave him a driving tour of dc & the monuments & old town. not sure what the plan is for tonight? maybe supersize me with shervin if im lucky. maybe call sam. or i would be happy just sitting around doing nothing, relaxing...ah, relaxing. need to talk to matt too. haven't heard from hans in a couple days. nothing going on for tomw, so...
best,
chris

me falta una maleta
so i'm back from la. and had a splendid time. quick run-down. it's been hard for me to tell others what i did since we did a lot and not much at the same time. got in on friday & made my way to matt's place with the aforementioned wannabe porn star super shuttle driver. came in, refreshed myself, then chatted with dan for a bit. he's a nice guy. we would be friends if we had the time. and i want that burt reynolds painting. matt arrived and we quickly left to walk down the venice boardwalk then through the city streets of venice a bit. came back and headed to the promenade in santa monica where i got a couple cute shirts at american eagle. i need people with good taste to shop with me more often & help me venture outside of my usual blue & khaki. the one shirt is a cute semi-pastel orange snap polo, the other is a long-sleeve reddish plaid button-up. both on clearance. if only any of the hot checkout boys were on clearance also. got dinner at swingers, this fun little diner somewhere (i forget the location...santa monica?). and jennifer capriati was our waitress, how cool.
saturday was driving around looking at the various city neighborhoods. lunch at mel's...and i was trying to remember if that was where the surreal life 2 cast went? anybody? went to amoeba & this cool kitschy store in silverlake. met up with tanner and saw van helsing. i give it a C. it was a little predictable but the special effects were cool and the score (alan silvestri) might be one of the best i've heard in a long time. i had a couple beers earlier that afternoon at the 101 diner which im sure made it a little better. afterwards the 3 of us met up with ashley, whom will become a good friend out there...i know it, and went to cat & fiddle. rounds of drinks were bought & thoroughly enjoyed by all. late night brought us back to matt's place again where we crashed.
sunday was brunch at this bread/bakery place (i'm forgetting the name). then we did some more driving around. got a star map! (don't be embarrassed.) and met a woman (the one selling the star map) who apparently has written a production for michael jackson and has a surprise witness for his defense team. she's called his lawyers a couple times, but they've been too busy to call her back. she was classic in her very tan skin, crimped hair, glasses, long fake hot purple nails, and fanny pack with change. drove around & saw tobey maguire's trash cans and some other people's houses. got a little lost and decided we'd hit up mulholland drive and have some hottie photo shoots. head down laurel canyon back into beverly hills. wrapped up the day with sunset at the santa monica pier (see pics) and dinner at a mexican resturant in santa monica. oh, we also got el pollo loco earlier in the day :)
and that's a brief rundown basically. pictures are up at my yahoo pic page. need more opinions. you people need to tell me which ones of me are the hottest (and don't say all of them.) refer to them by number. matt was a fan of 54 & 55 but i think those are the worst!!! omg, 3 exclamation marks...i'm such a girl.
flight back on monday went fine. had another nice date with hans monday night. just hung around at arundel mills. gretchen: they're playing the video for sarah harmer "almost" on their giant tv screens. walked around. did some shopping. fun little dinner at johnny rocket's. which is a great porn name, btw. drinks at gillians. saw mean girls which i am giving a very strong A+. it might be the best movie i've seen all year thus far (as i think i mentioned earlier.) amy poehler steals the show & lacey chabert is almost unrecognizable.
tom'w i think i'm going to see supersize me with movie club. adam comes friday afternoon & we're dashing off to annapolis to see our menage partner sondre lerche. then just enjoying dc and/or baltimore on saturday & sunday before he leaves. that's about really all that's happening. next week is the live tori dvd/cd and steve poltz shows, plus the thrills at black cat.
best,
chris

exhaustion
is pretty much about all i'm feeling right now. that and a tinge of loneliness. but we'll focus on the exhaustion. i know i've talked about it a lot here, but damn am i tired. it was all i could do to pull myself out of bed yesterday morning at 9:30 then today at 6:30. hopefully some respite will be coming soon though i feel it will be a week or two off as this weekend will be busy (in a good way) then i think i'm getting kicked out of my bedroom for a couple of days late next week since my parents have friends in town and they need somewhere to put them.
people from the past keep popping into my mind and i'm not quite sure why. whether it's somebody i had one random date with in college, or someone who made their exit only a couple short months ago. not sure why often these people come flooding into my head or what i can do to keep them out. i know sometimes people say we're a sum total of our experiences, but perhaps we're a sum total of the people we meet. my only problem is i let so many of those people mean so much to me. which is not necessarily a problem per se, but can be one if that meaning is not reciprocated. if i haven't left the same mark on them as they have on me. but since we don't speak much anymore and i don't really have a way of contacting these people...numbers and email addresses have long been forgotten...i guess we'll never know. maybe somewhere, someone keeps replaying that image in their mind of me sipping on a latte, or eating a doughnut with a fork & knife, or the excitement in my eyes when showing them a favorite movie of mine. i guess sort of like eternal sunshine... i dont want to lose these memories but do i really need to keep as firm a hold on them as i do? so what if the latte becomes an espresso, the doughnut a bagel, and the movie a king of the hill rerun? is that what matters? soylent green is people, lol. (always nice to interrupt the serious stuff with a stupid joke chris.) now i'm feeling this has gotten a little esoteric and maybe that's what's memorable about me. or maybe it's the quiet introspection. or nothing in between the two. something tells me these memories and the desire to maintain a hold on them will only heighten as my time here in dc dwindles and living and loving in la becomes a more present reality with every passing day.
best,
chris
